This mountain state in northern India has what few other states have a kaleidoscope panorama of wealth; of mighty snowy peaks and enchanting evergreen glades, bubbling streams and misty forests, lakes, meadows and cultivated hillscapes. Situated in the trans Himalayan region of Lahaul and Spiti, it is a land of contrasts. To its north are the barren rocks and raging torrents of the twin valleys of Lahaul and Spiti. Kulu and Manali are different, bountiful orchard country; the valleys of Kangra are rich croplands. High points for the visitors include Simla, Kullu, Manali, Rohtang Pass. The Kullu valley is one of the most beautiful, with lush green forests and Beas River running through it. From Manali, the trip along the spectacular mountain road to Leh via Rohtang, Keylong, Pang is breathtaking, and takes one across the second highest vehicular pass in the world at a height over 5500 m. Dharamsala, famous for settlement of Dalai Lama, lies on the foothills of Dhauladhar mountain which flanks the valley. Himachal's valleys - Simla; Chamba; Kangra, Kullu, Kinnaur, Spiti & Lahaul are the trasure hunt, each famous for its tradition, landscape, culture, temples, people and art. Charming, tolerant, guileless, and scrupulously honest are the people of Himachal that make an indelible impression on visitors. The majority of the population is of aryan stock and are devout Hindus, there is ample representation of Buddhism, especially in the north, and Islam. The people of Lahaul-Spiti are of Mongol stock, and display the facial features associated with the east.

Dalhousie

The dream destination of Dalhousie is a happening hill resort in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh. The hill resort of Dalhousie has a charm of its own. Walnuts, chilies, Strawberries and the alpine flowers are the sights that remain in the sweet memories of Dalhousie!

Shimla

Shimla (also spelt as 'Simla') derives its name from goddess 'Shayamla Devi', which is another manifestation of Goddess Kali. Shimla is one of the few places in the world where an enormous amount of history and heritage has been distilled into such a small place in so short a time. Shimla has been blessed with all the natural bounties, one can think of. Dwelling on a panoramic location, the hilly town is surrounded by green pastures and snow-capped peaks. The spectacular cool hills accompanied by the structures made during the colonial era create an aura, which is very different from other hill stations.

Shimla retains its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings, among them are the stately Viceregal Lodge, charming iron lamp posts and Anglo-Saxon names. Apart from its natural beauty, Shimla is also famous for its architectural buildings, wooden crafts and apples.

Manali

The Kullu valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh has an ancient town in its lap called Manali. Surrounded by sky kissing peaks at an arm length, Manali's major treasure is its proximity to the snow clad peaks. Manali is a flourishing orchard industry, a popular honeymoon destination and trailhead for innumerous treks as well as a great countryside ideal for adventure sport lovers and nature seekers.

Manali literally means the 'Home of Manu'. Manu is the mythological character who is supposed to have survived when the world was drowned in Flood. He then came to Manali and recreated human life. Thus, Manali is sacred and Hindus treat the temples over here as pilgrimage.

Srinagar

Beat the heat in the hill resort of Srinagar. Srinagar is the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The scintillating hill resort is ideally located in the Kashmir valley. Srinagar offers the spectacular sights of the lovely lakes and the houseboats on them. The dry fruits and the traditional Kashmiri handicrafts are the other major attractions of the hill resort. The natural beauty of the hill resort of Srinagar will surely sweep you off your feet. Jahangir, the Mughal emperor was left spell bound by the beauty of Srinagar. He exclaimed "Gar firdaus, ruhe zamin ast, hamin asto, hamin asto, hamin asto" i.e. If there is a heaven on earth, it's here, it's here, it's here in Srinagar. Get ready to be captivated by the Chinar trees of Srinagar.
